iPad or not?
So, it’s here. Would I buy one?
I can see my mom using it instead of a laptop, but it’s just not enough for me to get rid of my MacBook. So it’s not a smartphone. It’s not a laptop replacement. What is it? It is in a new category, it is a media appliance. So it is a perfect “walking around the house” or “take it to the beach” device.
So what we got here is basically a large iPod Touch, except iWork. iWork is the “Office” bundle of Apple. If they can port these complex applications from OS X to iPad, and if they are actually usable with multi-touch gestures; why not port other applications too, like iLife or Adobe applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc? When that happens, add a USB port and multi-tasking, I may think of getting rid of my laptop.
Apple made a bold move. They created the thing that everyone stayed away from. But they had to. iPad is a revolutionary device. Not because of how it is right now, because of how it’ll be in the future. It’ll get more and more closer to a laptop in time and one day completely wipe them out. Unfortunately, we need to wait a lot more.
